New "Tron: Uprising" Trailer

I'm not normally a fan of Disney's animated tv series, but this doesn't look half bad. Its darker tone reminds me a bit of the animated Batman series from the 90's.

"After School Midnighters" teaser trailer #1 directed by Hitoshi Takekiyo

This is an incredibly strange idea for a film. I'm still trying to figure out how the anatomy model has rockets in his armpits.

"Count on Me" by Gentleman Scholar

"Count on Me" is nothing short of brilliant. Fantastic execution and a great sense of humor. I love stuff like this.

"EXOIDS" Trailer

This is totally not my style, but it is interesting to see what people are doing over at Gnomon, and the fact that Alex Alvarez is a producer makes it worth a look.

"Patterned by Nature" for the North Carolina Museum of Natural Sciences

Patterned by Nature was commissioned by the North Carolina Museum of Natural Sciences (naturalsciences.org) for the newly built Nature Research Center in Raleigh, North Carolina. The exhibit celebrates our abstraction of nature’s infinite complexity into patterns through the scientific process, and through our perceptions. It brings to light the similarity of patterns in our universe, across all scales of space and time.
10 feet wide and 90 feet in length, this sculptural ribbon winds through the five story atrium of the museum and is made of 3600 tiles of LCD glass. It runs on roughly 75 watts, less power than a laptop computer. Animations are created by independently varying the transparency of each piece of glass.
The content cycles through twenty programs, ranging from clouds to rain drops to colonies of bacteria to flocking birds to geese to cuttlefish skin to pulsating black holes. The animations were created through a combination of algorithmic software modeling of natural phenomena and compositing of actual footage.
An eight channel soundtrack accompanies the animations on the ribbon, giving visitors clues to the identity of the pixelated movements. In addition, two screens show high resolution imagery and text revealing the content on the ribbon at any moment.

"BOTTOM OF THE NINTH" - Worlds first ANIMATED Graphic Novel

"Ryan Woodward, a veteran feature animator who is also responsible for the popular animated short Thought of You, is placing his bets on animated graphic novels. The first issue of his independently produced series Bottom of the Ninth will be released next month for the iPad and iPhone. The trailer above is intriguing as is the comic’s storyline:
The first app, Prologue, will set up the characters and the world of Tao City. Candy Cunningham is an 18 year old girl, born with a phenomenal athletic ability, and a hot head! Her father, Gordy Cunningham is an aged major league player whose athletic abilities have diminished over the years, but his ability to put on a good clown show always draws a crowd and ticket sales. Throughout the story, Candy faces some serious identity issues. The fame and glory of being a Tao City hero conflict with the true meaning of happiness taught to her by her father.

MTV World Design Studio Milan - Chameleon by Buck

Today's average male teenager is juggling school and sports, playing with every gadget he can get his grubby hands on, socializing across multiple cyber platforms, consuming media and targeted marketing at every turn. All the while, his body transforms, hormones rage, pubes sprout, and puss-filled blemishes explode on every inch of his skin until he finally pulls himself out of the teenage wasteland only to have to get a job and spend the rest of his days staring at a screen in a cubicle. In collaboration with MTV International, we crafted this action-packed look into the plight of the modern teen.

AV Club Interview with Don Hertzfeldt

http://www.avclub.com/articles/don-hertzfeldt,72307/

"I just feel so lucky, and I think that’s a big part of the reason I work so hard, because I feel stupid when I’m not making a movie. I feel stupid when I’m not in production on something, because this is such a rare thing. I just feel dumb if I’m squandering it and not doing something."

"Transforming Still Life Painting" by Rob and Nick Carter and Moving Picture Company- The Making Of

Many artists have animated famous paintings before, but the husband-and-wife artistic team Rob and Nick Carter have taken it to a whole other level. They created a a three-hour animated version of an Ambrosius Bosschaert still life painting from 1618:

Every aspect of Bosschaert’s painting has been brought to life including each flower stem, insect and background scenery. The film…takes the painted scene from early morning darkness through to noon (where the film exactly resembles the original painting) into dusk and late night.

They worked with a team of nearly two dozen artists from the vfx house Moving Picture Company where they first recreated all of the painting’s elements in Maya. Then they spent two-and-a-half years animating the film. If you go to Rob and Nick’swebsite and click on #10, you can get a taste of the exceedingly subtle and meditative quality of the real-time animation.

This article in Computer Arts offers more details of the challenges involved in creating such a slow-paced animated sequence. The digital artwork, titled “Transforming Still Life Painting,” is being released in an edition of 12 (plus 5 artist proofs). Each one is valued at £50,000 ($80,000). The Mauritshuis Museum in The Hague, which houses Bosschaert’s original painting, has already agreed to acquire one of the Carters’ digital reproductions for its collection.
