Gabe Askew and Hornet for The Columbia Water Center “Deeper Than Water”

Gabe Askew creates another top quality spot via Hornet Inc. for an environmental commentary piece for the Columbia Water Center. Utilizing a stylized stop motion approach, Gabe’s beautiful motion info-graphic is showcased by a smooth, continuous camera. It employs a masterful use of lighting to highlight these scenes and draw us further into the seamlessly connected miniature worlds Gabe has created.

Long time readers might remember a previous posting for Gabe’s fan video of Grizzly Bear’s Two Weeks that also embraces a captivating 3D faux diorama setting. Check out the video on Hornet’s site for some written commentary from Gabe.

"MiO Watering Hole: Nose Job" and "MiO Watering Hole: Cheetah" by Psyop

This product actually looks kind of scary, but as usually Psyop turns out a pretty impressive spot.

"Avoiding the mechanical output that often comes with traditional motion capture techniques, Psyop instead interpreted the live action performances, translating them into the world of the spot. This gave Psyop’s animators creative freedom to sculpt performances and massage comedic timing."

"The spot’s lush look is the result of a novel approach to production that effectively dissolves the line between live action and animation."

“Approaching a full CG spot with a live action mentality led us to an entirely new place,” said Creative Director Eben Mears of Psyop."

"Instead of shooting live action video plates on set, Psyop shot high resolution stills. These still images were then projected onto 3D geometry, creating a virtual set into which the 3D characters were later composited."

“There was a huge time savings in doing things this way,” explains Jon Saunders, Creative Director at Psyop. “We didn’t have to worry about tracking live action plates and getting our 3D cameras to match that movement. We just did all our camera moves in 3D and relied on our team of lighters and compositors to sell the look—which they did with flying colors.”

Official Trailer for Tim Burton's "Frankenweenie"

Characters from Pixar's upcoming feature Brave

Black as night with ivory muzzle and fetlocks, Angus is Merida’s powerful Clydesdale and her most trusted confidant.

Protector of his kingdom and family, King Fergus is a heroic warrior with a majestic bear cape, broad sword and a knobby peg leg – the result of his much-regaled skirmish with the demon bear Mor’du.

Grumpy and quick-tempered, the scrappy Lord Dingwall doesn’t let being height-challenged get in the way of solving his problems with fisticuffs.

Strapping Lord MacGuffin is a man of few words, though his deep voice resounds across the land demanding respect.

The wiry, indignant and off-kilter leader of his clan, Lord Macintosh is always a heartbeat away from hysterics.

Passionate and fiery, Merida is a headstrong teenager of royal upbringing who is struggling to take control of her own destiny. She feels most at home in the outdoors honing her impressive athletic skills as an archer and swordfighter, and racing across the magnificent Highland countryside with her faithful horse, Angus. With a spirit as vibrant as her untamed hair, Merida also has a softness of heart, especially when it comes to her wee triplet brothers.

A vision of grave, wisdom and strength of character, Queen Elinor is fiercely dedicated to the well being of her family and kingdom. As the measure, diplomatic counterpoint to her more impulsive husband, King Fergus, Elinor carries the weight of the kingdom on her shoulders.

Identical triplets Harris, Hubert and Hamish are adorable, redheaded, and always ready to stir up a bit of mischief, especially if sweets are at stake.

Gangly, guileless and often lost in his own head, Wee Dingwall is the awkward son of Lord Dingwall.

Speaking an uncommon Scottish dialect that is incomprehensible to most, Young MacGuffin is a shy lad of large proportions.

Young Macintosh knows he has it all – athletic physique, undeniable charm and long flowing locks that leave the lasses swooning in his wake.

Meet the new Wacom Intuos 5 Tablet

The new line-up uses the multi-touch support in Windows 7 and Mac OS X Lion to augment the Intuos range’s pen input system with gestural controls for rotating and scaling images.

A new on-screen Express View Display provides an at-a-glance overview of gesture control and ExpressKey assignments, and the pressure sensitivity curve for the pen.

The ExpressKeys themselves have received a makeover, along with the pressure-sensitive Touch Ring, now sporting a rather more minimal – and, we’d guess, more sensitive – design.

Each of the tablets in the range can now also support an optional snap-in wireless module, rather than wireless support being available only in a single model.

The Intuos5 is available in five models, in three sizes, three of which support multi-touch, as set out in this comparison chart on the company’s Pan-Asia website.

All of the tablets are available to order now. Prices range from $229 to $469.
