Tinman In Review - February 2012

Morghan Fortier and Brett Jubinville are so excited about their upcoming project at their newly established Toronto studio, Tinman Creative, they’ve posted a video showing off their first month of production. They plan to create such a video every month. I don’t know if their mystery project is a commercial, short film or TV production, but it sure looks intriguing with its great character designs and great sense of color.

This whole project has been an amazing experience. The two of us became friends through Vimeo and explored a shared interest in timelapsing Yosemite National Park over an extended period of time. We'd like to expand this idea to other locations and would appreciate any suggestions for a future project.

"Aqua" by 17 year old Gints Zilbalodis

Aqua from Gints Zilbalodis on Vimeo.

A cat wakes up surrounded by water and must learn to survive.

My name is Gints Zilbalodis, I’m 17 years old and this has been my passion project for the last year an a half. It started as vague ideas of a cat, ocean and overcoming fear. Then through numerous battles with the script it shaped up to something similar you can see now. After seven drafts I felt that it was ready to start storyboarding, but the film kept evolving all the way until the sound mix was done. I kept learning about filmmaking everyday, going through all of the different processes.
I chose the cat as the main character mainly to save time with exposition, because people know that generally cats are afraid of water. So I could just jump right into action. Plus cat is a fairly small creature and the ocean seems even bigger to him. And of course cats are much easier to draw than humans.
The film’s music is by my friend Bertrams Pauls Purvišķis who helped a great deal to tell the story the way it was intended. Music had a lot of to convey in very little time and it came out much better than I could’ve ever expected.
I’ve been delaying the release for quite some time, because as I learned by making it, a lot of mistakes made earlier when I didn’t have the experience had to be remade from scratch. I’m glad it’s finally done and I can show it to the world.

"The Royal Castle - from Destruction to Reconstruction" by Polish studio Novina

The Royal Castle - from Destruction to Reconstruction from Grzegorz Nowiński on Vimeo.

The exhibition at the Royal Castle in Warsaw / Poland.
by Novina Studio

The Royal Castle in Warsaw, being a symbol of the sovereignty of the Polish State, became a target for German military attacks as early as in the first days of the World War II. On 17 September 1939 it was in flames. Apart from the firemen and city wardens, also soldiers, harcerze (scouts) and civilians were helping to put the fire out. At the same time Polish museum workers and conservators, risking their own lives, were trying to salvage the most precious art collections, as well as decorative elements from the most important Castle rooms (eg. fragments of flooring, fireplaces, stucco works and frescos). The act of destruction was completed during the Warsaw Uprising in September 1944, when German sappers blasted the Castle walls.
Decision to begin the reconstruction was however not made until January 1971. In 1977 first interiors were ready. The next ones were delivered in July 1984. The rebuilding of the Castle was accompanied by an immense involvement of the Polish nation. The whole investment was financed almost in full with the money coming from donations of Poles at home and abroad.
Handing the reconstructed Castle to the nation was an act of honouring all of those, who, during the Occupation, with greatest dedication and risking their own lives, salvaged the Castle and the Castle art works for the future generations.

Ian Farnsworth - Demo Reel 2011

Ian Farnsworth - Demo Reel 2011 from Ian Farnsworth on Vimeo.

This might as well be called my "SuckerPunch" reel since so much of this reel is work from the work I did on that movie while at Prime Focus (and it's not even all of it). :) Anyway, this has been sitting on my HD for a while now.. figured I might as well share it. Enjoy!

Special thanks to the talented crews I've worked with!

Also, to clarify, for Suckerpunch I was mainly responsible for:
*Gun Fire rig and many shots (muzzle flashes done by Brian Ritz)
*Train Track Dust rig and shots (some shots shared with Brian Ritz)
*City explosions / City explosion bubble / Building destrucion (Some buildings and additional bubble interaction was done by Martijn Van Herk)
*Jet Pack take-off
*Some robot face-smashing

--Will add a proper shot breakdown/list later on. :)

**Re-Uploaded higher quality version. Compression settings are much better this time around
