QuickSketch_122010_ShihHeng

Here is a 3 min quick environment concept I get inspired by Justin's thesis. I use Screenflow to record the whole drawing process, if you want you may download the application from the site here: http://www.megaupload.com/?d=IAX732WL

Sorry for low quality with this first post, need to spend more time to figure out the best presentation with condensed format.

For some peoples' information, I list some tips I used to use with photoshop digital painting:
1. With brush tools selected, hold 'Option' then you can use dropper to grab the color on canvas.
2. Always draw with navigator window opened, that help you to preview the whole compostition.
3. Use Gradient Map to adjust your images, combined with blending mode, to find the best tones for your works.

I hope it helps, and please feel free to drop a line if you have any comments, questions.
Thanks.

This looks like it could be the next Paprika.

Google Docs Animation

As part of Google’s Demo Slam, a team of three artists created a piece of animation using the spreadsheet program Google Docs. Tu+ Uthaisri designed and directed the piece; Nam Doan and Arthur Metcalf animated the piece. Here’s a link to their source file (BIG!) if you want to see how they made it. It makes me smile to think that some day animation schools could be teaching students Google Docs instead of Flash.

Open Source Alice in Wonderland

Art Director of the Blender Foundation's 'Sintel' Open-Source film project, David Revoy uses a Linux system's Blender, Mint , GIMP , Mypaint and Al.Chemy to create the Above illustration of Alice in Wonderland. I can't say I'm a big fan of the final image but it is curious that he used all open source software in creating it.

Batman - Series Writer's Bible

I guess this came out about a year ago, but its been sitting on my hard drive for a while. This is the Series Writer's Bible for Batman: The Animated Series. This guide lays out a lot of the characters and some basic story and plotting rules for the series. It seems like a great resource for anyone looking to pitch an animated show. Either way, its an interesting look behind the scenes of the show.

Lego Minifigure Promos

These have been online since the summer, but I may as well post these. These are three promo spots I worked on while I was at Semerad (with Tom Gambino) earlier this year. I primarily worked on animation and rendering. The animation is pretty simple here, but we were fighting against some mo-cap animation that was provided to us. Overall they turned out ok.

(Animation and rendering done in Softimage.)
